A page to share random musings... an odd butterfly fluttering around.. a rare bloom to talk about... my next trip to plan... and yes, the new maid has joined! A page belonging to an author, a traveller, a compulsive decision maker of late... do keep dropping in to catch up on some gupp-shupp with me and do be prepared to put up with some anaap-shnaap rantings too :D

'Half a century ago in Mussoorie'- by K.J.S.Chatrath
I joined the IAS in 1967. Shortly we are going to have a get-together of all the batchmates from all over India. We have been asked to look out our dusty cupboards and fish out old photographs taken in 1967.
This is what I have located. It was taken on the Christmas Eve in December 1967 in the National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie.
We are (left to right) Ashok Kapur, O.S.Chauhan, me K.J.S.Chatrath, late Munish Satyawadi, Srinivasan Prabhakaran, Ashok Pradhan and a bit of Lalmanzuela.

'Oye Pangaa ho gaya Ji (I had an altercation)' - by K.J.S.Chatrath
It happened during my last trip to Tamil Nadu a few weeks back. I was taking a leisurely walk on Marina beach when I saw a tall hefty WWF type gentleman jogging. He was coming towards my direction and was very fast even though it is tough even walking on a beach. Then he crossed me and in so doing brushed against my shoulder.
And I was angry. I rolled up my sleeves and challeged him. Seeing my solid biceps, wiry body and equally steely resolve, he hesitated. In the meantime a small crowd gathered around us and somebody pointing towards me said, 'Punjabi'.
As soon as the tough looking gentleman heard this, he came to me shook my hands and said 'Sorry Mister' and then asked, 'Are you from Punnjjab'. Yes, I said proudly and on hearing it my opponent started jogging in the opposite direction...
Well, all this- the photo and the story are genuinely fake and have been concocted to shore up my ageing morale....

'Bland food and all that jazz' - by K.J.S.Chatrath
Vegetarian Thali Meal that I ordered at the India International Centre, New Delhi last week.
I suspect the organisation believes that human beings have not been blessed with taste buds or that tasty food is a bad thing.
In preparing this food no oil, no spices, no chillies and even no salt seemed to have been used even though the tandoori roti was very good. Bland- in one word.
I tried the non-veg thali for another meal and found the chicken to be definately under cooked.
Not my kind of food.
Pssst: I tried to keep the glass of beer out of the focus of photo, but quite evidently failed! And yes, beer wasn't well chilled!

'Pappa, Pappu & Jeanneret' - by K.J.S.Chatrath
Quelle originalité!
Pappa: ( Reading the newspaper aloud) 'Pierre Jeanneret's house opens to the public today.'
Pappu: Who was Pierre Jeanneret, Pappa.
Pappa: He was a relative of Le Corbusier.
Pappu: And who was Le Corbusier, Pappa?
Pappa: Go and finish your homework.
