The first Pakistani play that I saw years back was 'Buddha Ghar Mein Hai?' starring Omar Sharif. The next one, after quite a few years, was 'Dhoop Chaon'. Now, ever since Zee Tv has started telecasting Pakistani plays on Zindagi Channel, since about a year or so back, I have seen quite a few of these.
I like these plays as I, like many north Indians, especially people from Panjab, Haryana, H.P., and U.P. can relate to the idiom and social problems tackled by many of these plays. Other points that impress are generally good stories and excellent direction and absolutely fabulous acting. The sets are fairly credible and not loud and outlandish as in Ekta Kapoor serials. And lastly, the plays feature some very pretty and extraordinarily talented actresses. I am consciously using the word 'actresses' and not the unisex 'actors' as is considered fashionable these days because I find nothing wrong in using the word 'actresses'.
Take a look at some of these pretty and extremely talented actresses:
Sanam Saeed
Sanam Saeed is a British born Pakistani actresses who shifted to Pakistan when she was six years old, had appeared inthe third season of Coke Studio Pakistan where she sang background vocals on 'Alif Allah (Jugni) by Arif Lohar and Meesha Shafi, Aisha by Amanat Ali and Chori Chori by Meesha Shafi as a backing vocalist. I have seen her polished performances in the TV plays Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Ek Kasak Reh Gayi and Shukk, in tow of which she convincingly plays roles as a simple but principled young woman who will not take the wrongs of the society lying down.
Aiza Khan
Ayeza (Aiza) Khan, is a Pakistani model and actress.
She began her career as a model at the age of 16. In 2009, she made her debut
appearance on Pakistan TV. I have seen
three of her plays on Zindagi - ‘Meri
Zindagi Hai Tu’; ‘Pyare Afzal’ & ‘Do Qadam Door Thay’.
Mahira Khan
Mahira Khan is sometimes called the Madhuri Dixit of the Pakistani film
industry. I have watched her TV serial Humsafar, which also featured
Fawad Khan. She will be seen opposite Shah Rukh Khan in their upcoming
Bollywood film Raees.
Sabreen Hisbani
The scene in which she confronts her husband, who has cheated her for ten years, and asks with a tearful shriek who is the father of the little boy Idoo: इदू किस का बेटा है? is extremely well acted by her.
Sanam Buloch
There is another talented 'Sanam'. An actress and a television host, Sanam Baloch started her career as a talk show anchor in Sindhi television channel KTN. She has hosted several shows on Pakistani TV channels and also appeared in TV dramas as an actress. She played a famous role in drama serial Dastan on Hum Tv. Now she was hosting in morning show on ARY Tv. Currenly a play entitled 'Kankar' is being telecast who she portrays a battered and mistreated wife who stands up against maltreatment of women.
Soniya Hussain
Sonya Hussain is a Pakistani model, TV Host and actress from Karachi. She
has appeared in drama serials airing on ARY Digital and Hum TV. She was born on July 15, 1991 in Karachi,
Pakistan. I have watched her play Kitni
Girhain Baaki Hain. Currently I amd watching her play Mere Harjai on Zindagi TV in which she portrays almost an ideal woman- caring elder sister, sensitive daughter and large hearted wife.
Incidentally, as I see it, one impact of these serials has been that 'plazzos' or the A-line pants and long shirts, which these actresses are shown wearing in most of these plays, are becoming popular in India.
Saba Qamar
She acted in the popular play Ru Baru
Meesha Shafi
Soha Ali Abro
Sohai Ali Abro, is a Pakistani actress, dancer and
model, who appears in Pakistani serials and films. She was born on May 13, 1994, in Lahore, Pakistan.
As the inncocent side heroine who too is in love with the hero Afzal, in
the play Pyare Afzal, Soha Ali Abro just stole the play as well as the
hearts of viewers. Soha is also a dancer and
model, who has appears in Pakistani serials and films. She was born on May 13, 1994, in Lahore, Pakistan.
Arij Fatyma
Arij Fatyma is an
American-born Pakistani model and actress. She started her career as Fashion
model. Her first drama serial was “Hazaroon Saal”.
