'Buon Compleanno Signora Sophia Loren! (Happy birthday Madam Sophia Loren)' - by K.J.S.Chatrath

It is kind of late to wish some one whose 86th birthday fell on September 20, 2020. But if the person is beautiful Sophia Loren, then one needs no excuse to wish her.

An old photo of Sophia Loren on the cover of LIFE magazine.

Here she is in two old photos with another of my favourites and her co-star of many hit films- the late Marcello Mastroianni.

Buon Compleanno Signora Sophia Loren!

'Another gem from Mr. Kailash Satyarthi, 1/2 - by K.J.S.Chatrath

Cliche':
A cliché or cliche (/ˈkliːʃeɪ/ or /klɪˈʃeɪ/) is an expression, idea, or element of an artistic work which has become overused to the point of losing its original meaning or effect, even to the point of being trite or irritating, especially when at some earlier time it was considered meaningful or novel.
. . . . .

While delivering the Sunanda Memorial Lecture in New Delhi yesterday, the 1/2 Nobel Prize awardee Mr. Kailash Satyarthi explained:  "There are three enemies of a child-friendly society, namely, apathy, fear and intolerance, he added. Children are unfortunately victims of poverty, illiteracy, trafficking, conflicts and natural calamities."*

He then came with the gem of a solution, "There was a need for a synergy between top down and bottom up approach of development,"(emphasis supplied)* he said.

'Humour in corruption' by K.J.S.Chatrath

Opening the newspaper (The Tribune) this morning, I could not help smiling when I saw a small serious sounding funny news on corruption. Take a look:

"Fatehabad, October 26: Officials take oath not to accept bribe:
On the directions of Central Vigilance Commission, 500 government officials were administered oath against corruption to observe Vigilance Awareness Week. Bhupender Sharma, SVB SHO, said officials promised they would not accept bribe henceforth."  (Emphasis supplied)

Pappa: (Reading the newspaper aloud) 'Nehru' to be deleted from 'Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship'..

Pappu: Ha..Ha..Ha.

Pappa: What is funny in it?

Pappu: Next they would drop the word 'Fulbright' from it...

Pappa: Quiet...Go and finish your school homework.

"Zirakpur-Patiala Highway: Specify why 6 laning has come to a halt, asks HC"- news in The Tribune, October 25, 2015

On my first reading it appeared to be an executive/administrative matter, but since the Hon'ble High Court has asked for this information, there must be a legal angle to it.

'Pappu, Pappa & a banned substance' - by K.J.S.Chatrath

Pappu: Pappa, Pappa.

Pappa: Yes,  Pappu.

Pappu: I have to make a confession. I took a banned substance yesterday!

Pappa: (Shouting) You did what? Getting into drugs at this age.

Pappu: No, no. You and Mummy had gone out and I felt very, very, hungry.

Pappa: (Still shouting ) That is no reason to take drugs...

Pappu: No, Pappa, no. I found an old pack of Maggi noddles lying in a shelf in the kitchen, so I quickly cooked it and had it.

Pappa: Hmmmm....Couldnt you have waited for Baba Ramdev’s noodles to reach the market? Now go and finish your school homework.

'Yesterday, today & tomorrow' by K.J.S,.Chatrath

Remember Vittorio De Sica's film "Yesterday , today and tomorrow' starring my favourites Marcello Mastroianni & Sophia Loren?  I will only latch on to the title of the film and use it to explain politics in India.

Yesterday they used to say, "We have been misquoted".

And today they are saying  "We have been misquoted"

And alas, tomorrow also we can hope to hear "We have been misquoted"

Perhaps all of them have read and want to quote T.S.Eliot who wrote in 'The Love song of Alfred J. Prufrock':

"That is not it at all,
That is not what I meant, at all."

कुछ न कहो, बस कुछ भी न कहो!

'Tur dal touches Rs 200/kg in wholesale...' (news)- ‘Abb Kya Karenge Bhai, Abb Kaha Jayenge Bhaiye’

“Tur dal touches Rs 200/kg in wholesale, may stay pricey till Diwali...   ...  the wholesale prices in Maharashtra have crossed Rs 190/kg, which will translate into retail prices of Rs 200/kg to Rs 220/kg in a few days. In fact, trade sources also think that prices can also touch Rs 250/kg by Diwali if the government intervention is not effective.” Says The Economic Times:
