'The amazing Mr. Kailash Satyarthi' by K.J.S.Chatrath

Mr. Kailash Satyarthi amazed me, and a lot of other people when he was jointly awarded the Half
Nobel Prize last year. It also caused a bit of embarrassment to me as I was travelling abroad at that time and some of the co-travellers wanted me to tell them more about this gentleman's accomplishments. I told them in my usual straight forward (read blunt) way that though I considered myself to be a reasonably aware Indian, I had never heard this name before.

The provocation of writing this present piece is a news article published in the  venerable The Hindu recently (http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/other-states/a-childfriendly-world/article7736577.ece)

The article, inter-alia, says that "Nobel Peace laureate Kailash Satyarthi said on Wednesday that he will write to the heads of governments of all 193 United Nations member countries asking them to ensure effective implementation of child-friendly Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)."

Is this gentleman being plainly pompous or purely naive!

By the way he seems to have set up a "Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation". That's some modesty, this!

'Pappa, Pappu & Jharu' by K.J.S.Chatrath

Pappu: Pappa, Pappa.

Pappa: Yes Pappu.

Pappu: Why is it said that a 'jharu' has become a weapon with political parties in India?

Pappa: You know 'jharu' is the symbol of Aam Admi Party. It wants to sweep away corruption in public life.

Pappu: What else?

Pappa: The BJP is using 'jharu' in the literal sense and has launced a 'Safai Abhiyaan'.

Pappu: And what about Congress Party?

Pappa: Congress? Is there still a party called Congress?
