BALD IS BEAUTIFUL - by Clement Ilango
Here is another beautiful one from my bald friend and Fifty Plus Traveller- Clement Ilango:
BALD IS BEAUTIFUL -
My tour guide in Prague ( Czech Republic ) that I visited a decade ago told me that almost half the Czech men were BALD - either totally hairless or had a big patch of baldness surrounded by hair or had a receding hairline . Baldies cannot be missed in other European countries too ( like Spain , Germany and the UK ) where thirty percent of men naturally go bald by the age of 30 and a whopping 50 percent by the age of 50 . ( Is their DNA to be held responsible ? ) Ten percent of the world population of men is now bald .
Some like Buddhist monks and even nuns , Haj pilgrims and members of the Hare Krishna Movement are deliberately bald . Intentional head shaving was found in ancient cultures too such as Egypt , Greece and Rome . Egyptian priestly class and even some Egyptian women ritualistically removed all body hair . Beautiful Queen Nefertiti had shaved her head bald .
There was ,however , a time in recent past when baldness was a no no , particularly if young men were seen with it . Their value in the marriage market was low . In frustration bordering on despair some youngsters and popular film stars took to wearing wigs . Some others looked for solutions including treating their bald pate with onion juice . Widows in some cultures were advised and in some cases coerced to shave their heads .
This perception does not hold good any more ....
Rejoice , baldies ! A recent study has found that women find hairless males to be more successful , stronger and so more attractive and desirable than guys with a full head or thinning hair . ( It is a different matter that this research was carried out by a scientist who is bald himself ) . Watch baldy Micheal Jordan , rockstar of basketball ball , in action and you will stop associating virility only with hair. Who could have looked more macho than Yul Brynner who was bald like an egg ?
Women , reportedly , have reasons to love bald men . They find them super sexy and their gaze more intense . They are convinced that baldness highlights the natural beauty of their men's features . They love running their fingers on smooth shiny heads . They do not have to periodically remind their bald men to visit a hairdresser . Such men do not spend hours hogging the bathroom to style their hair . Women are happy too not finding shower drains clogged with the hair of their men !!
Don't forget , celebrities like Mahatma Gandhi , Lenin and Nehru were baldies too . Stalin often cleared his smoking pipe by knocking it on the head of Khrushchev's bald head !
A few days ago a movie was released in India ( an Odia film called ' Bala ') based on the routine embarrassment and societal pressure faced by young baldies . Bald men were invited to watch this film for free !
Vowing to flaunt balding and work towards eliminating the taboo and stigma around it a few hundred men have formed an association in Kerala , a southern state in India . It is likely to be named Bold Baldies Association of Kerala . Good luck to them .
PS - yours truly is also a baldy . Loving the clean aesthetic look .. - RCI

All India Farting Competition in Gujrat
Sketch source: Wikipedia
This one surely deserves to be covered by 'Anaap-Shnaap'-
A 'fart competition' held on Sunday
in Gujarat's Surat, touted as the country's first, turned out to be a lot of
hot air, though not literally, as only three participants managed to overcome
shyness and inhibitions to take a shot at the three trophies...
While sixty people had registered to
display their prowess in letting out "longest", "loudest"
and "most musical" farts at a banquet hall in Vesu area, only twenty
turned up on Sunday.

'Life- with its darkness and light' ....by K J S Chatrath
This lazy morning when it was raining outside, I was in my favourite chair, doing one of my favourite things- thumbing through old magazines and newspapers.
The magazine I picked up turned out to be an old, December 5, 2011 issue of the Time News Magazine.
Two photos, almost on succeeding pages, caught my attention. One was dark and negative while the other was positive and pleasant.
This was the firs photo:
This photo was entitled "Fanning the flames' by the magazine which went on explain what is was about: 'In a now infamous act, a University of California at Davis police officer pepper sprays students protesting in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street. (Photograph by Wayne Tilock). This almost Gandhian form of protest by the students, never mind the justification of the cause, really shook me.
The second photo of an advertisement by Louis Vuitton showing God's most beautiful creation- a woman, dissolved all my negative feelings and I was breathing easy again, with a faint appreciative smile on my lips.

The joke that is 'counselling' - by K J S Chatrath
What is happening in the name of 'counselling' appears to be checking up of various columns of the application form by the administrative staff
counseling: the provision of professional assistance and guidance in resolving personal or psychological problems.

You disappoint me 'The Hindu' - by K J S Chatrath
I subscribe to The Hindu as I find it to be a balanced paper even though this balance is missing when it comes to its pricing- In Chandigarh it costs Rs. 10/- on weekdays and a whopping Rs.15/- for the Sunday Edition.
But today's (23rd July) edition has surprised me greatly by its choice of news. The Karnataka Assembly imbroglio is the main headline on the front page. That India has successfully launched Chandrayan -II has been relegated to page-7. Of course it has mentioned about the launch in a box in colour on the front page and also written an editorial about it. Since the launch had taken place at 2.43 pm on 22nd so it can not be said that it was a last minute news and therefore could not be accomodated on the front page.
You disappoint me greatly, The Hindu.
