Chetan Bhagat's formulae for fixing the bus are shallow & vague generalisations' - by K.J.S.Chatrath
Wasted my time in reading Chetan Bhagat's article in the Times of India dated 17th March 2017 entitled, "Fixing the Indian Bus'' (https://blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/The-underage-optimist/fixing-the-indian-bus-unless-the-system-is-reformed-changing-governments-or-leaders-wont-help/)

'CRPF should update its website atonce and honour the 9 martyrs of Sukma' - by K.J.S.Chatrath
Source of the above photo: The Indian Express
Two days back 9 personnel of the 212 Batallion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) got martyred at Sukma, Chattisgarh safeguarding the security and integrity of the country. Two others got severely injured.
Today is 15th March. There is no information about the names and photos of the martyrs and the injured.
Sadly the website of CRPF (http://crpf.nic.in/) is giving the 'latest' news dated 26th February 2018. There is not a word or a photo about these martyrs.
We as a nation, must respect those who sacrifice their lives for the country.

'The New York Times writes an obituary of Madhubala & corrects its 50 year old mistake' - by K.J.S.Chatrath
It is not often that the influential The New York Times (NYT) admits at having made a mistake and then graciously makes up for it. This is exactly what has happened.

Overlooked
Since
1851, obituaries in The New York Times have been dominated by white men.
Now,
we’re adding the stories of 15 remarkable women."
And this list of 15 includes an Indian- Madhubala (1933-1969). Aisha Khan has written her obituary for the NYT under the heading : "A Bollywood legend whose
tragic life mirrored Marilyn Monroe’s".

Le Corbusier tried to impose christian superstition on secular India" - by K.J.S.Chatrath
It is not well known that while designing Chandigarh, Le Corbusier tried to impose his christian superstition of number 13 being unlucky on us secular Indians. At the time of dividing sectors, he gave a number to each but left out number 13.
I have written about it earlier also (www.anaap-shnaap.blogspot.in) but Chandigarh is so full of admirers of Le Corbusier and his nephew that no one has the courage to say the very obvious.
With this background I was thrilled to see an article, "Take off the baggage of superstitions' written by Ms. Jayanti Roy. My sincere complements to her for being courageous enough to criticize the over rated Le Corbusier.
I sometimes pull up The Tribune whenever I feel that it is falling short of expectations or for editorial shortcomings. But this time I want to say 'Bravo The Tribune'.
http://www.tribuneindia.com/news/chandigarh/take-off-the-baggage-of-superstitions/554631.html
Chandigarh must shake off this superstition. What about adding a new Sector numbered Sector-13?
I have some other problems too with Le Corbusier:
(i) he copied the Fatima's Hand symbol and called it The Open Hand symbol without showing the grace of giving credit to the original:
The so called 'original' idea of Le Corbusier.
The welknown Christian & Islamic symbol of Miriam's/Fatima's hand
Some where in Morrocco
(ii) The Chandigarh Legislative Assembly's design is nothing else but putting the chimney design of a reactor on top of the building,
Legislative Assembly building (top) and power plant chimney (below)
(iii) Sector 17 market is the dullest and most bland newly designed city centre that I have seen,
(iv) The concept of 'jalis' used by him liberally have turned out to be an ideal place for dust to settle and are very difficult to clean etc.
(v) Both he and his highly over rated cousin/relative Jeanneret were very poor designers of furniture......

'Oscars awards ceremony- devoid of sartorial elegance' - by K.J.S. Chatrath
I switched on the TV the other morning to witness the Oscar Award ceremony. I noticed that while gentlemen were all elegantly dressed in suits & ties/bow ties, a good number of ladies were seen in ghastly and bizarre dresses totally devoid of sartorial elegance. I just could not stand it after a few minutes.
I switched off the TV and went back to sleep.

'Respectful Salute to Ms. Manu Bhaker' - by K.J.S.Chatrath
Ms. Manu Bhaker of Jhajjer, Haryana, India bagged a gold medal yesterday in the 10 m air pistol shooting championship at the ISSF World Cup held in Guadalajara, Mexico.
This young lady is an exceptional sportsperson. She is just 16 and had started learning air pistol shooting only two years back at the age of 14. Earlier she had excelled in boxing, thang-la (Manipuri martial art) and roller skating.
It seems that India has discovered another Olympic Gold Medal prospect.
Here is a bouquet of flowers and a respectful salute to this young achiever.

'Bhoot Bangla'...by K.J.S.Chatrath
When I was young, there was a popular Mehmood film called "Bhoot Bangla". You may ask why all of a sudden I am talking about 'bhoots' and 'bangla'?
The following news triggered off old memories: "Nitish released ghosts in my bungalow: Lalu's son". https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/nitish-released-ghosts-in-my-bungalow-lalus-son/articleshow/63021551.cms .
By the way, have you seen Anushka Sharma's horror film 'Pari'? No? Never mind, I have not seen it either!
