Today is O P Nayyar's birthday. His music is incomparable and lives on. 

Nayyar Sahib had the rare gift of making a lilting tune out of the most banal of lyrics.

Here is another interesting one from O.P. Nayyar. The lyrics are partly Panjabi (Ukkad dukkad bamba bow, asee nabay pura sau). See and hear the music which he wove around it....Do try to listen to the wordings.....This is from 1960 film 'Basant' starring Shammi Kapur & Nutan. The film had got into censor trouble because of the wordings of a number of songs....These are the partly changed wordings.

Here is another song with the lyrics saying "Hongkong, China Mina Singapore...   ..." . And look what he made out of it. Compliments to Asha Bhosle ji too. Listen...   ...

'Bengaluru Shame' by K.J.S.Chatrath

I have long been suggesting 
(i) whipping as one of the additional punishments for those who try to molest women..
(ii) .physical castration of the rapists... 
(iii) posting of the photos of the molesters/rapists on TV and newspapers...
(iv) keeping a Black Register of rapists/molesters/castrated men with their photos on line for all to see......

The parents of such molesters/rapists too should get equal blame for failing to bring up their boys as cultured human beings.

'Let's go to Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain) in Peru' by K.J.S.Chatrath

I am planning a visit to the Vinicunca Mountain, known as the Rainbow mountain, in Peru. I understand that it just requires abour 3-4 hours of climb.

I have requested a very dear friend in Peru to advise on the logistics.

Uyuni a small town situated in the middle of nowhere. It originally blossomed as a railroad junction, and even if this is still an important aspect, no doubt is tourism now its main source of prosperity. What would otherwise be a fairly dull stopover en route between Salta, Argentina and La Paz or Potosi, has become a big tourist attraction  because of the  salt flats.

Salar de Uyuni is world's largest salt flat at 10,582 square kilometers (4,086 sq mi). It is located in southwest Bolivia, near the crest of the Andes and is at an altitude of 3,669 meters (12,090 ft) above sea level.

I would strongly recommend a visit to Bolivia to all my 50+ friends. It is different and yet there are so many affinities with India. People are friendly and the prices quite low.
