'Tribute to late Vinod Khanna' - by K.J.S.Chatrath

Tributes are pouring in on the qualities of late Vinod Khanna as an actor and a good human being. He was a good and popular actor and I join others in condoling his sad death.

As the well know limerick says:
'Of the gone and the dead,
Nothing but good shall be said'

Yes, one knows the advice of this limerick but let me ask if we are not really overdoing this praise......

'Preparing for death' by K.J.S.Chatrath

I am 74+.

I would suggest all my 70+ friends to take a look at the article 'How to have a better death' in the latest issue of 'The Economist.'

Being 70+, we should calmly talk about preparing for death and not shy away from reality.

'What is this creature called?' by K.J.S.Chatrath

What is this creature called and in which part of the world is it found? Any idea?
Well, it surely possesses a strong backbone!

Having been a bureaucrat all my life, the first sentence that came to my mind on seeing this photo was, 'Dont crawl when asked to bend, but stand all the more erect!'

I came across this photo in an advertisement while thumbing through an old 2011 issue of Time News Magazine.

'Breeches, horse riding and all that' - by K.J.S.Chatrath

I joined the IAS in 1967 and reported at the National Academy of Administration at Mussoorie for a one year training. Perhaps the most talked about part of this training was the compulsory horse riding. At the end of the training each one of us was supposed to be comfortable in riding a horse and make it trot, canter, gallop and jump a 3.6 ft. high barrier.

This is me fully dressed up for the first day of horse riding training. The breeches that I was wearing has become a sort of family heirloom.
My father, who used to be a good rider, Captain of the Government College Lahore's Gymnastics team and an avid trekker had a favourite pair of breeches. This is his photo in those breeches. This pair was got altered for my use in the Mussoorie Academy.

I passed the riding test in the first go. I do not know to whom the credit goes. But I pay my respects to my father, who was born this day, 15th of April in 1905 for letting me use his breeches.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

'We have to clean up our act' - by K.J.S.Chatrath

Some where in Chawri Bazar, Delhi area on a Sunday morning. Any constructive ideas for cleaning up our mess and of ensuring that it does not happen again?
