'The Revenant' by K.J.S.Chatrath

I went to see 'The Revenant' two days back- a first day first show visit after 50 years.

Hugh Glass, played by Leonardo Di Caprio in this film is the person who has returned supposedly from the dead.

One understands that initially 'The Revenant was only to be filmed in an extensive area near Calgary in Alberta, Canada, plus a scene shot in the neighboring state of Montana in the USA. But due to the lack of snow, the production had to move to southern tip of South America in Argentina'. Having been to the area near Calgary in the Canadian Rockies recently, and also having  gone to the incredibly snowy areas of Patagonia in  Argentina earlier, I just loved the stark beauty of the locales. The entire film was shot in  natural light

I found one aspect to be a bit jarring. Loud background music of beating of drums when Glass is fighting, was totally unnecessary and takes away from the seriousness of the movie and the particular sequence.

Leonardo is just excellent throughout. By the way, there is no female lead in the film and Hugh Glass does very little talking.

From 'The Titanic' to 'The Island' to 'Revenant'- it has been a steady upward climb for Di Capriao whose looks reminds me of a hero of yester years, Clarke Gable. The acting styles of the two being totally different.

Ultimately weather Leonardo gets the Oscar or not, I would give the film all the stars in the sky.

'No thank you Mr. Mark Zuckerberg' - by K.J.S.Chatrath

I have received, as you all would have, the following didactic message on my Facebook wall:

"It's 29 February, Kjs!
Every 4 years, February gets an extra day – make the most of it."
No thank you Mr. Mark Zuckerberg. I do not need your advice on how to handle my life, so please stop sending such advisories in future!

'Papa, Pappu & railway blankets' by K.J.S.Chatrath

Pappa: (Reading the newspaper aloud)- 'Railway blankets washed once in 2 months, says Minister in Rajya Sabha....'

Pappu: Surprising...That is really surprising...

Papa: Are you surprised that the blankets are washed so infrequently?

Pappu: No- No Papa. I am surprised that those are washed at all!

Papa: Come on Pappu- we must not be fussy about dirty blankets &  we should encourage Indian Railways.

Pappu: And what about the 'Swatch Bharat' campaign with Gandhiji's specs as its logo?

Papa: Quiet...Not a word more. Go and finish your school homework. Now!

Haffington Post on condemnable anti-India slogans in JNU

“From the very beginning, it has been amply clear that the people who raised anti-India slogans at JNU on 9 February were Kashmiris. Yet, the Delhi Police has not even been looking for them, because arresting Kashmiri students in Delhi will finish any remaining chance of saving the PDP-BJP alliance in Jammu and Kashmir,” writes Shivam Vij in  Huffington Post; https://in-mg61.mail.yahoo.com/neo/launch?.rand=4j24bm2j7hrsu#

'Supply & demand stuff' - by K.J.S.Chatrath

Rail and road connections between Chandigarh and Delhi stand interrupted because of agitation. And guess who is profiting from it? Yes, the airlines. The cheapest air ticket from Chandigarh to Delhi has now been jacked up to Rs.15,004/- as against the normal cost of around Rs. 3000/-

Did you say 'supply & demand'?

'Now, this is black humour...' by K.J.S.Chatrath

Remember the chappie who calls himself 'Saharashri'? Yes, he is still in jail trying to defend his alleged misdeeds. But today's half page ad in newspaper is something one can not allow to pass.

Guess what? He has become an author and come out with a motivational book entitled 'Life Mantras' (sic!...Should it not be 'Life's Mantras'?).

And he has threatened to come out with two more books in the series....

Now, this is black humour!

'INTACH Delhi Chapter is really steeped in history!' by K.J.S.Chatrath

I was going through INTACH Delhi Chapter's website about its forthcoming heritage walks and look what I found: "Plans are being finalized to add seven more heritage walks to this list in time for the Commonwealth Games, 2010." http://www.intachdelhichapter.org/heritage_walks.php
INTACH Delhi Chapter is really steeped in history!
